The problem is, I don’t know what I want to do.
I don’t recall ever having a job I enjoyed, one that I wanted to go to work.
When I was a kid, with the exception of “scuba diver”, I never knew “what I wanted to be when I grew up”, and I still don’t.
I picked Electronics Technician when I joined the Navy because of a Heathkit stereo my Dad and I put together when I was a kid. It was mostly my Dad putting it together. Electronics Technician seemed vaguely familiar because of that.
And that’s what I’ve been doing since 1979. Never really enjoying it, but making OK money till now.
So what do I want to do?
It doesn’t matter, I still can do whatever I want. All I can think of that I like is swimming and diving and going to the beach. I could be a diving instructor, but the salary there would more than halve again what I’m making now.
There’s a place here called “Smoothie King”. I think it’s a great place, I think I’d like owning a franchise like that. I’ve looked at franchises, but can’t really find anything I like and could afford.
I just don’t know what I want to do.

Always a tricky one if you don’t know what you want. All we can hope for is you have what you need. Maybe one day you’ll figure a new path or one will find you that makes you happy. Have a wonderful Wednesday.

i was pleased to make my way into the field of corporate accounting and found my niche in executive incentive compensation. i really did love what i did and the company i did it for. that ended 5 yrs. ago. but i was grateful to have the years there as i know no job will ever match my skill set as well, nor have such great co-workers.
i think any job that pays the bills and allows you enough free time to pursue your life interests is the best most can hope for. and many don’t achieve that!
Dude, if nothing else, please consider freelance underwater photography for mags like National Geographic or something. The underwater pics you take are magnificent, and I know you enjoy taking them.

you should see what it would take to start your own business and then figure out what you love and how it can make it pay for you…I”m 70 and still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up..think it’s too late.
