Assumptions, Expectations and Attitude

When I was a kid, I didn’t completely understand the rules of American football. I got on the football team, hoping to learn the rules more than actually play football, but everyone seemed to know them (but me). They were never taught, and out of shame, I never asked. I sucked on my high school football team, msstly because I never knew what I was doing. To this day, I am still aware of rules I don’t know in American Football.

Not so many years later, I had been a lifeguard at a swimming pool for a couple of years. I took a pool managers course to learn about taking care of the pool itself. I think it was in the evenings at a local college. In the course, everyone (except me, apparently) already was a pool manager. They discussed flushing the filters, adding the chemicals. Everyone in the class was much older than me and already knew what I came to learn. In the class, we never flushed a filter, or even went to a pool! I never knew precisely what anyone was talking about, didn’t understand the terminology, and again, kept my mouth shut, because I didn’t want to be the sole idiot. I flunked the test, and was so angry, I wrote a scathing letter.

Both times, I didn’t know what was going on, I couldn’t see it until it was over, and I looked back with 20/20 hindsight. Both still cause me anger and resentment and shame today.

I don’t really know the point of this post. Something happened recently that reminded me of it, but now I can’t remember what that was.

I guess my point is, when in doubt, speak up.

No News Is Good News

It was a great weekend! Friday I stayed home while the Wife went out to Oktoberfest. Not my cuppa tea)

Saturday I went to the beach, wife had to work (only for two hours). The beach is full of seaweed, and I had the whole 7 Mile Beach to myself! Didn’t see another soul. The sea’s been pretty  rough, with the wind coming opposite the normal direction. Good sand n sun tho, it was great!

Sunday, we took Sheba to the beach at Barkers, not much seaweed there, came back, gave Sheba a bath. Then I trimmed the tree in the back yard. It had branches hanging down almost to the ground. After that we went to a friends house and hung out by the pool.

And I watched Football, Redskins won,  Dallas lost.

It was a good weekend.

Super weird dreams last night though. I had a brain twister about the anomalies of the number 96. And a different dream that someone was building real structures of optical illusions. There was a corner of a building, a house really, that was up on a pole. It had a still-alive woman from olden days, still young and not affected by time. And more illusions. Too weird to retain in the brain. Waker-uppers. I got up and laid on the back porch for a pretty long time, since
sleeping wasn’t comfortable.

But it was a good weekend! I feel pretty good this morning, despite lack of sleep. We’ll see now the day goes.

Have a good week!

Blog Neglect

After reviewing my posts for the past week, I am amazed that I forgot to tell you that last weekend I went diving, and flooded my video camera. I apologize for this gross oversight.

On the bright side, I’m getting a new video camera, and I expect it to arrive today!

Drift Ghost-S Action Camera

The camera is waterproof to 3 meters, (10 feet) which isn’t good enough for my needs, so I also ordered:

drift uw caseThe underwater case, good to 60 meters or 197 feet.

So I should be good to go again for awhile. This is a far superior camera and I was pretty impressed with the old one, so we’ll see how it goes! I know I’m gonna like it!

Two Days Till Thursday

Well, Monday is gone. now it’s Tuesday. payday is day after tomorrow.

Last night we went to dinner at Macabuca. It was pretty good food and there was a nice sunset.

Yesterday in town it rained hard almost all day. West Bay didn’t get drop. I couldn’t go on my beach lunch yesterday because of the rain and I was on the scooter. Now it’s nice and clear but I wonder it’s going to rain again today. 30 percent chance haha!

We’ve had a new coffee maker now for about a week. I suppose it makes acceptable coffee. It is one of those Keurig kinds with the canister.

My studying has been going extremely slow. I’m afraid I’m going to have to get up even earlier in order to study and accomplish anything.

That’s it for today. Have a terrific Tuesday!

We Won A BOAT!!!!!

The Wife and I went out to lunch today, after we power washed the house and decks. After that, on impulse, we went to a boat show at Harbor House Marina. They were raffling off a cute little boat. My wife asked me if I’d like to win a boat, and I said “Not really, but I would like one of  those hats.” (everyone was wearing Harbor House Marina hats.) We went back inside and I found where they were giving the hats away, right next to where they were selling raffle tickets. The Wife bought a raffle ticket.

Then we went outside and there were hamburgers and stuff and a whole lot of people. Then came the drawing, we were so far away we couldn’t hear, so we went closer, just in time for the grand prize drawing, the boat. I went in shock when they called my name. I was zombified. I turned to look at the Wife and she was all excited, jumping up and down. I didn’t know she put the ticket in my name.

So they’re delivering the boat on Monday, I’m still in shock. I can’t wait to go out on it.

If I was going to buy a boat, it would be a boat just like the one we won.

Video Friday

FishSchool.wmv_snapshot_00.02_[2013.04.12_06.41.27]I know it’s supposed to be Flashback Friday, but I want to post a video instead. I took this yesterday. I put the camera on the bottom in a school of fish, then they swam around it. There’s a little surge, making the camera rock back and forth, and finally it fell over. The video is 21 seconds long.

Flashback Friday: Finger Lakes Mudslide

When I was in my middle teens, we used to go to this place called Finger Lakes, near Colombia Missouri, USA. There were several lakes, next to each other, like the fingers of a hand, without the palm. You could swim across one lake, climb over a hill, and there was another lake. I only went to the first two, but I think there were more.

It was at Finger Lakes I saw my first topless girl. She was laying on a raft and I never will forget it! My first real live boobies in the sun!

Anyway, in between the first two lakes, there was a bug mudhole. And there was a bucket and a sort of like a ditch, that ran from the top of the hill, down to the mudhole. You’d get a bucket of mud, climb up the hill, pour the mud into the ditch and jump in and slide down, rocket fast. Then you’d be propelled into the mud, which was about three feet deep and very liquidy.

mud mud bathThen you’d crawl and grope and feel your way over the hill to the lake (you probably had a faceful of mud) and dive into the lake and get clean. Then you’d go do it again. Apparently it’s very popular, because there’s plenty of images on Google under mud bath.

It was very fun, and I remember it like it was yesterday!
